Kenya Declares Bid for 2026–2030 Term on Universal Postal Union (UPU) Postal Operations Council (POC)

The Republic of Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to regional and global postal development during a reception hosted in honour of delegates attending the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Administrative Council of the Pan African Postal Union (PAPU) in Arusha.

CA Director General Mr. David Mugonyi was represented by Director Licensing and Compliance Mr. Matano Ndaro during the reception.

“In Kenya, despite the fast-evolving postal landscape, we see hope and progress ahead. Our postal and courier market is vibrant, with 351 players committed to connecting people and goods. This growth is a testament to the resilience and spirit of our people,” mentioned Mr. Mugonyi.

“Kenya is embracing the future by leveraging the vast reach of our Designated Operator, the Postal Corporation of Kenya, to become a cornerstone of the e-commerce revolution. The Postal Corporation of Kenya has risen to meet the moment, expanding into logistics, public services, and financial solutions that serve our people better every day,” he added.

Kenya actively participated in the Council’s technical committee meetings, reinforcing its role as a champion of regional cooperation. On the global front, Kenya boasts over six decades of active membership in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and a rich history of leadership, including holding the position of Director General of the UPU International Bureau from 2012 to 2021.

Building on this legacy, Kenya officially announced its candidacy for re-election to the Postal Operations Council for the 2026–2030 term, pledging to work collaboratively with other UPU member states to support the development of resilient, inclusive, and modern postal systems worldwide.
