CA Steps Up Public Engagements on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection At Mashujaa Day Thematic Week in Eldoret
The Authority has intensified public awareness on cybersecurity and consumer protection during the 2026 Mashujaa Day Thematic Week at the Eldoret National Polytechnic, highlighting the importance of a safe, secure and trusted digital environment for all Kenyans.
The Authority is educating members of the public on emerging cyber threats, online safety, and their rights as consumers of communications services. The initiative seeks to empower citizens with the knowledge and practical skills needed to navigate the digital space safely, identify potential threats and make informed decisions when using ICT services.
As Kenya increasingly embraces digital technologies to support economic growth, public service delivery, education and innovation, cybersecurity has become a shared responsibility. The growing use of digital platforms also exposes consumers to risks such as online fraud, identity theft, phishing attacks, cyberbullying and the misuse of personal information.
Speaking during the opening session of the Thematic Week, CA Chairman Charles Karondo noted the importance of consumer education in building national cybersecurity resilience. He emphasised the need to equip citizens with the awareness and skills to recognise cyber threats, protect their personal information and adopt safe online practices.
The Authority’s consumer protection mandate also focuses on ensuring that Kenyans understand their rights and responsibilities when accessing communications services. Consumers are encouraged to exercise caution when sharing personal information online, use strong and unique passwords, enable two-factor authentication where available, verify suspicious messages and links, and report suspected cyber incidents through the appropriate channels.
The CA is leveraging the platform to enhance visibility of its digital connectivity initiatives through the Universal Service Fund, licensing of various communications services, responsible use of communications services and the importance of seeking redress when their rights are infringed.
By engaging directly with members of the public, the CA aims to build a more digitally informed population capable of identifying risks, protecting itself online and contributing to a safer digital ecosystem.
The Mashujaa Day Thematic Week brings together Government institutions, the private sector, the media and other stakeholders to showcase national achievements and ongoing development initiatives. The programme is anchored on three pillars: security, sports and the economy, and will culminate in the national Mashujaa Day celebrations on 20 October 2026.
The opening ceremony was led by Dr. Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary in the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration; Dennis Itumbi, Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination; Eliud K. Lagat, Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service; and Gilbert Masengeli, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service.
The thematic week exhibitions will culminate in the Mashujaa Day celebrations on 20th October, 2026, to be presided over by President William Ruto.
